Words can be so powerful. The words that come out of your mouth can either build someone up or tear them down. Do you think about everything you say before you say it? Are you making sure your words are being used for a good purpose and in a positive way? Do you hang on the words of others? Just think of the last time someone said something really hurtful or really encouraging to you. The positive, encouraging comment has a much longer, lasting impact and influence for the good, and I believe it is what we are called to do as Christians. Be aware of everything that comes out of your mouth. Using curse words and foul language doesn't make your message any louder or understandable.
The Bible says this...
"The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit" Proverbs 18:21
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Ephesians 4:29
"May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14
The things you say are important. They can either bring glory to the Father or not, so think of what you say. What about what others say to you. Are you dwelling on and hanging on every word that a friend or significant other says to you. Do you crave to hear words of acknowledgement and praise from others? Are you dependent on others lifting you up and hang onto their every word? Sometimes the Lord does use others to speak to us and give us affirmation of things. However, we are not meant to hang on any person's words. We are however meant to hang on Jesus' every word and to crave God's Word. Instead of defining your life around the approval or affirmation of one individual, seek the approval and affirmation from your Heavenly Father who created you in His own image and loves you unconditionally. He knows what is best for you and will provide for your every need. He can and will care for you better than any friend, family member, or lover you may have. So, crave His words and The Word.
"As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God." Psalm 42:1
